Okay, we covered car navigation units...but how about portable handheld units? I figure Garmin was a good place to start, but they make about 50 different units. Any advice? Good features, useless features, etc?

It's time I invest in one before the spring fishing season starts!

Yeah - here's what you do:

1. Remove car unit from velcro on dash
2. Carry it with you.

There you go - handheld unit!

If you have the simple longitude and latitude figured out (which all NUVIs have then you can get lost in Nunz's deep hairy jungle and
still make it it out. (Mak excluded )

Bottom line, the Garmin Nuvis are at the top.

Does anyone actually use their car unit like that?? I never even thought that might be a possibility. Do the car units have similar accuracy to the handhelds? Can the topo maps (like on the handhelds) be loaded onto the car units?

I have used my dads like that and it works but is not made for that, like an handheld is.

It depends on the brand. The high line Garmins can have all sorts of maps
put onto a SD memory card that has a built in card slot. The maps
are pricey.

But it wouldn't matter, 'cuz I'd be spending the money on either different maps, or a separate unit.

How easy is it to add a POI to one of those units? Can you give a description to the added POI?
