All of the Garmin Nuvi models are fantastic. Blows Tom Tom away IMO.

The prices are way down. Some of the best prices are on Wal-Marts
web site, not in their stores.

I don't know about the other units, but I know three people that have Garmins and they all love 'em.

Even the the Garmin Street Pilot series is kick ass. Not as nice as the Nuvis, but still very nice.

I'm leaning towards the nuvi 200. He needs something simple and so far can't beat it.

Which one is the GPS that you can add info to it through it's interface and update via internet? I believe the manufacturer
shares the updates online....

I really need to learn more about these as I travel so much
having one of these would definitely be helpful!

Any experts here?

MG, do you have a PDA with bluetooth? If so, a $50 GPS antenna and some software and you're set.

Wal-Mart will have this for $130 on Black Friday.

Staples will have the Tom Tom one third edition for $125 and the Garmin Nuvi 260 for $250.

Well i just went to my account at Garmin and noticed the 2008 map DVD update.
It was $63 at Wal MArt. My account at Garmin entitles me to the update for free.

They also have all kinds of down loadable stuff, but they really make the
nicest ones out there. I would spend the extra money and move up
to the NUVI line. They have MP3, Bluetooth, video play back, and accept SD cards
with more map data if needed.

My antenna is very similar to this one: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GPT-801&cat=GPS

For the software, mine is for PocketPC, but I may be able to find something good for the Palm. I'll look around.

I got one for my parents. They don't need anything fancier than that.

Well, that's part of it... ;\)

But if I was gonna pony up for a nice one, it'd be for myself!

Actually, my mom was planning on buying one she saw advertised for $65, from some brand I'd never heard of. And since I missed gettin' her something for her birthday last month, I offered to get the TomTom as a birthday/Christmas gift. I think the unit should work just fine for them. (I hope.) \:\/

Mom's understanding. Especially since I usually make it up to her at some point.

We just picked up the Garmin Nuvi 200W for $199.00. It is nice it has a 4.3" screen. I know cuz I measured it using DE's dick.
My parents better like it.

Your parents like DE's dick? Nasty...

MG, also give the new Google Maps a try if you have internet service with your phone. Calculates your approximate position based on the cell tower you're connected to and refreshes automatically.

There is some navigation software for the Palm, but I'm finding it difficult to locate a place willing to let us try some out.

Anybody familiar with it?

Never had a GPS before so I have nothing to compare it to!

The Garmin Nuvi line is the way to go. I just love my 350 and in less than
24 hours my parents were out and about playing with the 200w and adding
things to their favorites list.

The Nuvis are so compact but so feature rich.

Anyhoo grab a USB to mini usb cable and register at Garmin's site.
Then do a firmware update. Most retail 200s shipped at rev 2.30
and Garmin is up to 2.60 or 2.90 depending on the unit.

No matter what you read, someone loves and hates the one you finally chose.Any have any experiance with the Magellan?

Got two this year also.

A Garmin 880 for 379.00 It was less than half of list. While it was
shipping I broke the screen on my Garmin 350. Noticed a pricing error
at Best Buy and got a Garmin 780 for $279 minus rewards cash that
got the price down to $185. So I replaced the broken 350.

So I sold the 880 on eBay for $499 and made out like a bandit.

I am used to the Garmin Nuvi line. The Magellans get good reviews.
It will serve you well. They are all great to have.

I have a Nuvi 350W. Ii is a great unit, easy to use, and easy to load custom POI's, and there are several websites that have POI lists that you can download.
