My camera arrived yesterday. It will take up to ten shots in a special panorama mode. You just make sure the edges overlap using the guide bars on the viewfinder, load the pic into the supplied software and it will "auto-stitch" them together for you so that they appear to be one large photo.

Of course the greedy camera company wants you to pay extra to upgrade to the "pro" version of the software that will allow you to "free-stitch" amoung other things.

WTF is the difference between auto and free stitch ?
I can't find anyting on it.

PS. It also takes video I got a good one of the wife naked for thunder but I lost the file.

Auto stitch is where you take pics in camera with the stitch feature on.

Free stitch is when you take digital pics you have on your pc and use the tool to stitch them together to produce a panoramic effect.

Are you refering to "Olympus Camedia Master 4"? If so I'll pm you a free registration # for upgrading to Pro version."

If you can get a copy and learn how to use it, photoshop would be the way to go to do the stitching.

That way you can work on any imperfections that may appear.

Is there a good plug in for doing stitching with photoshop?

I found ArcSoft PanoramaMaker 3 works good, (available here http://www.tucows.com/preview/296828.html) here is an example (not my work) I'm looking for a crack or serial for this program because its a 15 day trial.

But I really like this pic (again not mine) It's a 5 photo panorama. I don't know what software was used.

Nice pix. Lot of times it really isn't the camera.. It's da fool behind it.

I really liked this one.

I would love to sail in an area like this.

Agreed, if you know how to use the manual settings and have a good eye for framing you can get awesome pics.

Provided you have good optics and good film...which in digital's case is a good image sensor that yields good colors/contrast minimal artifacts/etc.

I shoot with a Nikon D100 because I can control it 100% manually, PLUS I can shoot in raw mode with no compression.

This new Olympus does the same, I just haven't learned all of the manual features yet. I was too busy drinking Rum.

It can shoot in RAW mode...? Are you sure?
If my memory serves me correctly it can record in jpeg and tiff but not raw.

Edit here is a spec page:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Olympus/oly_c770uz.asp

It can't record in RAW format

You are correct. I guess I read that it was uncompressed but as I read into it there is a difference. I don't know that I'm that advanced to notice the difference but I see where it says that raw is better than tiff. I'm still new to this digital stuff. My last digital was just a regular old point and shoot.

On vacation I shot everything in SHQ 3:2 (2288 x 1520) although I noticed that when I wasn't sure what to set it on in manual mode I would turn it to the auto setting and it wouldn't allow the 3:2, so some of my shots are 2288 x 1712 (kind of a bummer). I still have some learning with the camera.

One day I went out around the resort with the tripod and my good old fully manual 35mm Pentax for some great beach and foliage shots.

I enjoy Black and White also. I did all of the dark room work in high school journalism. It's fun to do.
