hey guys, quick question for you IT peeps out there...

long story short my wife just started home officing but can't get the VPN connection resolved. her laptop is connected directly to the high speed cable modem via ethernet, regular surfing is sweet but she can't get logged into her companies end. the IT people at her office have their head up their ass from what i understand and going on 3 days now no solutions. they had me call our ISP (time/warner/earthlink) just to make sure that VPN is not blocked for some reason, which it isn't. they claimed that they have seen this issue when earthlink is in the loop for some reason but didn't elaborate if they were ever able to address it.

any thoughts would be great! thanks!

ec

Usually the problem is at the companies end. They either have to add the incoming IP address (your wifes) to their inbound table, OR they dont have all the proper VPN ports open.

I usually vote for the first one. If they say that they dont have IP blocking on, then you need to find out what authentication protocols are being used.

IE: chap, spap, pap, ms-chap (what version of that)

What Khan said! \:\) If you do use a router at home (I know you said connected to the cable modem but just in case) some routers require VPN pass through to be enabled and are not enabled out of the box. D-Link is one I know of for several models.

Ya, and netgear, you have to manually add the ports. The vpn pass through sucks on them, its easier to just open the ports.

we do use a router, but i took that out of the equation when we were first testing it out and just had it ran directly to the cable modem and could not get it to work. asshats in IT have basically said fuck it from what i understand because we're going on like what, a month now. still nothing. not even returning her phone calls/emails. nor is the head of the department.

"if i was the man i was 5 years ago...i'd take a FLAMETHROWER TO THIS PLACE!"

hoo-ah,

EC, out. and thanks again guys.
