For those of you that have a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound setup, where do you find the best place is for the rear surrounds?

1. On the wall behind the sitting area facing towards the front

or

2. on the side walls facing towards each other but behind the sitting area?

I'm pulling wire for the speakers and never gave this much thought. Which works better? I've seen diagrams showing both methods used, but which would give a better sound?

Thanks.

I wasn't being a smartass.(This time). It really is an individual circumstance situation.

Remember that high frequencies are directional and need to be "aimed" toward the listeners ears.Lower frequencies (subwolfers) are less directional. It's why all (almost) speakers keep the tweeters higher that the wolfers. Voices are generally high, so dialog comes from a "center" channel.to give the illusion that the person on the screen is talking to you.

I wasn't refering to your post, mak - I was busting on oj's..

Thanks for the info. I had the basics down, I was just wondering why on some sites they say put them on the back wall facing front and others say to put them on the side wall facing each other. That had me confused.

I ended up running the wire to the back wall - I figure I can make adjustments later if necessary as the ceiling will be a drop ceiling anyhow... running wires shouldn't be too much of a challenge later.

Insulation is going in right now - then it's a trip to HD for some drywall!

Sadly, Menards is not everywhere, DE. I love Menards the best though!

I do like Menards. I was just giving Shoozle some shit.

John Menard is a really great guy. He used to ice race with our club. Guess where his son Paul got bit by the racing bug?

He will return phone calls to a dumbass like me unlike many other CEOs.

All three suck in the service department. But Menard's easily has the best selection.

And back to the original question....I have mine in the rear corners facing the couch.

Menards is tops around here and we have all three. And with my complete house remodel I have experience in all of them.

If I ever get my house done my rears will be on the back wall facing forward. Like mentioned before it all depends on the layout of the room and acoustics.

No, they haven't moved that way yet.

I remodeled both my bathrooms and put an addition on my garage and very little of that money went to Home Depot (which is the closest of the three to me). I drove outta my way to buy certain things from Menards and sometimes Lowes.

I suggest that you get your speakers from a speaker company and not an electronics giant (I.E. Sony, Pioneer....). Home Depot speakers are for AM radios.
