What?

It's not my fault that my wife is too honest for my liking.

She is getting an iPod for Christmas and was looking around for download sites, since she doesn't like using the P2P programs. She was talking to her siblings about it and one said she uses Limewire Pro, and the other said he used iMesh. Both are P2P programs and I don't understand paying for a P2P service when you can use some for free.

Limewire is getting sued by the RIAA and MPAA and things are not looking good. They will end up having to pay royalties to continue.
iMesh is in the same boat. They do not stand a chance with the amount of money and the caliber of lawyers the RIAA is using. There is a lot news about it on Google. If they get the IP logs in the suit a lot of people are going to get pounded. Only people that are good with proxies and newsgroups will stand a chance of continuing to exchange music in the long run. The RIAA will not be able to ever shut it all down. They are succeeding very well at nailing P2P networks and nabbing end users. They are filing hundreds of very solid cases every month across the country. There are also criminal charges filed in some states and they are not negotiating.

The MS Zune is paying royalties. $1 for every unit sold was the agreement worked out. Early 2007 the contracts with the record companies
are over with Apple and the RIAA is negotiating a similar deal to the MS Zune.

We know of a kid locally here whose parents paid out almost $4000 for 140 songs that were grabbed using a P2P network. Then the lawyers bill was another $2000 grand.
The RIAA is making DTV's letter campaign look like a picnic when they nab someone.
$6000 buys a lot of music off of iTunes.

Which is probably exactly why my wife wants a legitimate download site. I just figured there would be some people out here that was paying to download.

Dude, learn how to use the newsgroups. THen you can pay $15 a month for unlimited downloads of anything you can ever imagine. Newshosting.com or giganews.com are two providers. Big difference when using newsgroups is that you are NEVER uploading, unless you choose to do so intentionally. And the only people MPAA and RIAA have been going after are uploaders (p2p).

But then I'd have to teach my wife how to use newsgroups. Ain't gonna happen. If she doesn't like P2P programs, she ain't gonna use newsgroups.

So they've paid out about $170 total so far then.

With a program like newsleecher that has built in search capabilities...... It is SO simple....

Somewhat like napster days... do a search... might have to filter through a bit of the returns... but songs are easy to do that...

Right click ---> leech

File served.

Yes, and that may be what we end up with...but that also has a downloaded program that runs it...not P2P, but extra software that I don't want nonetheless. It looks like just about everything runs about $0.99 per song, but I assumed user interfaces would vary a lot.

iTunes has the lock on the most seamless interface to get the songs from the ones I have seen.
