Looking to get a 4x8 multiswitch for my remodel house. Any one switch better than the others?

I have seen the following for sale:

JVI
Terk
Zinwell
Eagle Aspen
WNC

This sucker will be mounted in the attic and I don't want to be climbing up there next Summer replacing it.

Thanks in advance.

Well, if you are SMART about it, it wont matter which one you'll get, cause you SHOULD run all the wires to within 2 feet of the attic access. So in case it does burn itself out, or gets fried by lightning, all you have to do is remove the access panel, reach in, replace it and put the panel back in place....

Think about it this way, No matter how much money you spend, the failure of the component will be determined by how hot it is outside in relation to how far inisde the attic you have to go to get to replace it..

Closer to the attic access, the longer it will run... what do that call that? murphy's law.... friggen murphy screws up everything man...

The German made Spaun models are amazing.

They are the highest rated in many home theatre magazine reviews.
We had one last 6 years at the old house and it is still in use by the people that live there now 4 years later.
Spaun has a North American office in Maryland. If you google them you will find tons of places and great reviews about them.

Why a 4x8, you got three lnb's going out to 8 tv's?
I've got a 2x4 collecting dust.

I'd love to get a Spaun but I can't see shelling out $300 for one right now. My budget is way over right now.

I have three lnb's that need to goto 2 standard receivers, one HD Tivo and one regular Tivo for a total of six lines.

I've been reading around some forums and have put a bid on an Eagle Aspen. Should be able to pick one up for around $30. Have read that the JVI's are junk but the others are about the same. Hopefully it will last a couple years or longer then maybe my savings account will be built back up enough to get a Spaun.

Holt S*%T, I had no idea they had gone up that much. I have not bought one in 4 years. Keep the budget safe and stick with one of the others.

Just snagged a Zinwell for $25. Hopefully someday soon in the future I can let you know how it works.

How hot do you suppose an attic gets? The specs says it works up to 140° F.

I'd hate to put it in the basement, that would add about 20-30 feet to a few of the runs. Or is that not enough to worry about signal loss. My longest run will be about 40-50 foot if mounted in the attic and add 30 or so if I have to bounce down the basement and back up.

20-30 feet will be nooooooo problem at all. I've got runs to my Tivo's much longer without issue.
