Now that the smart ass remark is outa the way...

heres the deal... As it stands, there is more software currently being written for PC's... (actually its always been that way) most of your current games are released for the PC months before it is released for mac....

Same thing goes with APPS... however, there are millions more virus's written for the pc than for the mac....

Mac's are pretty solid machines... they are currently (and always have been) more expensive than PC's....

Macs are extremly good around Audio/video editing... that seems to be their niche market... however, with the speed's of pc's, its starting to give the mac a run for its money when it comes to those things...

So, honestly.... find a Mac sales rep... go in, talk to him tell him what you WANT the computer to do... and i know this is hard, but try and find one thats not just working for commission... In this particular situation, he will show you and tell you what you need...

Do the same with a PC.... compare prices, and make your own descision.....

Go to an Apple store, they are not on commission. Also CompUSA is not on comish.
The Apples are so stable it is spooky. Soon if not already the Macs will be running Windows natively not in emulation. The build quality of the Apples is amazing compared to the IBM PC machines unless as much or more is spent on the IBM PC. Most Macs have a lifespan of 30-35% longer than the average IBM PC according to Byte magazine.

Well for years I was a Mac person primarily because it was what we used at work. But then we made the switch over to the dark side so at home I followed suit. As was already mentioned the biggest problem with a Mac based system is the availability of software and games. Now once they are capable of running windows as a native OS then that may no longer be an issue. So it just comes down to what you want to do with the computer? That will dictate which way you need to go.

Several, we use them for a company that the wife and I started on Windows 3.0 machines.
I have to go off site to work with several companies from time to time. I was at a huge company and they have 3000 IBM pc machines in service. 1200 Macs. The IT guys for the IBM PC side have 30 employees. The Mac side IT guys have 4 employees. To me that speaks volumes, but Apple has changed so much from the old "classic" OS to OSX that those numbers may change for the IT guys.
Now that Windows is much more stable than any previous version I am impressed with it. I just hate the way MS does business and that is one of the reasons Twister calls them the darkside.
One thing that really pisses me off is that huge hidden area on a Windows OS hard drive that MS uses to spy on its users. XP SP2 actually increased the size for MS to glean even more info from the users. Apple does not have anything like that in OSX to this date. The OSX source code is open to anybody. Windows will always be under lock and key. Software developers have noted how much easier it is to write for a OS with the source code.
Adobe had a 25% increase in cost of developing Creative Suite 2 for Windows than it did for OSX.

Like Twister said the ability to run Windows natively might really change the public perception of what Macs are good for. Their sales are going up every month.
