if you are going to leave them as mp3 format. then you can lower the bit rate down some and save more space, you do lose a little quality but not much. i use it to make smaller file sizes in order to put the mp3 on the cell phone. most good mp3's are 128 bit rate or higher, and i dont see much of a loss by putting them down to 64 bit rate. almost cuts the file size in half. you can get a program like advanced mp3 converter to do it real fast. i am sure there are others out there that will also change the bit rate, but i like mp3 converter.
just a thought.
also you could do the overburn, but then you take that chance of doing damage to your drive.
