Found this interesting site that describes how you can take
a $10-$20 CVS "disposable" digital camera and hack it to
allow you to download pics from it to your PC.

Looks like a fun project, here are a couple links:

http://myweb.nmu.edu/~tstrothe/PV2mods/PV2mods.htm

http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/

Now somebody do it and send Sewzie a camera to play with!

They're crappy, like 1 or 1.3 usually, but for $10... not to mention the sheer joy of modding.

Gentz,

I have the parts necessary to make the make the cable
needed for use with a CVS camera. The include the Palm
cradle and an old USB cable.

I don't have access to a CVS camera, the closest CVS is a
2 hour drive from me.

Anyone interested in building the cable and modding one
of these cameras let me know. I'd like to get one up and
working for one of our basement dwellers to play with and
will gladly donate the parts I have to the project.

why cvs??

I don't think cvs is in Canada.. or if they are not inmy area..

there must be other companies that piggyback off the same equip and sell it under a different brand name..

need to look into it a bit further

I didn't even know they made "disposable" digital cameras. I guess fools will buy anything.

If you absolutely need to buy disposable buy a 35mm and get the picture disc when you develop. Then you have quality 35mm prints and digital.

I know, off topic, sorry.

I don't think that's off-topic. I do think the draw to the disposable digital camera as opposed to the 35mm disposable would be the digital part. Plus, who wants to wait a whole hour for photos to be developed.

its not so much as being disposable..

its more or less a camera rental..

They pull your pictures.. reseal the port and reuse the camera..

You can buy a 1.3 MP for less than $40 and own it.

Just one of those things I don't get I guess.

My buddy at work bought a 3 megapixel on sale at Best Buy for $40.00 2 weeks ago. My wife has a Sony 5.1 Cybershot, so I don't need one anymore....
