This company does not deserve support.
Here is my saga of earlier today.
Warning Stear clear of TDK products.
Here is my saga. They don't even have phone support outsourced to Bangladesh, even eMachines can do that.
Here is a copy and paste with on online chat support person from TDK. The drive is 6 months out of warranty has burned less than 100 disks and has had been powered up for about 20 hours in 18 months. What a total POS.

** Please allow time for the technician to read and reply to all comments.** Hello, thank you for contacting TDK technical support, how can I help you today?
OJ says:
My Indi 8x external drive seems dead. I have a burned left hand and can barely type, sorry.
Tim says:
what is going on with the drive?
OJ says:
The drive will not even mount CDs or DVDs let alone burn them.
OJ says:
IT is about 18 months old and has only burned about 100 disks.
Tim says:
does it give any error messages? Does it eject automatically after trying for a bit?
OJ says:
No it keeps making a very faint clicking noise like it is looking for the start of the data. I have left a disk in for over a minute and it wont do anything until I hit the eject button. Is it self cleaning or should I try one of those cleaning discs.
OJ says:
In toast it says waiting for brive indefinately
Tim says:
the drive isn't self cleaning. If it doesn't really read a disc, a cleaning disc may not help (it usually relies on the drive to read the disc a bit)
OJ says:
Also the green lite just stays on as long as a disc is in the drive even though it won't mount or burn.
OJ says:
So are you telling me it is dead?
Tim says:
it's quite possible. You might want to try a different firewire cable, or even try the drive via USB (for reading only), to see if anything changes
OJ says:
I have aleady done both suggestions and it did not work. I am so I very disappointed in the very short life span of this unit. It has hardly any use and has never been abused. What are my recourses at this point?
Tim says:
there isn't any recourse. The drive is beyond the warranty period. However, you can take the drive out; the external case should work with other IDE drives
OJ says:
Wow, well nothing personal Tim, you seem like a nice guy, but you surely can understand that I am very upset. I will not be buying anything with the TDK name on it and will certainly pass on the horror story to all of my local and online friends and of course a DVD chat forum I go to. I am shocked that there is no assistance to keep the repution of TDK high. Honestly how much would it cost TDK internally to send a bare drive and have me toss it in the case?
Tim says:
unfortunately we can't do that. The warranty policy is in place; it's not something we can just bypass
OJ says:
Is there anyway I can talk to someone on the phone about this. I am not looking to yell or scream, or get a pound of flesh. I do think this is a unique case and merits more attention. My company does graphics work and we are adding 2 macs and two 2 windows notebooks. I was planning to buy two more Indi drives for the notebooks, but I can't go with your brand if this is all I am left with.
Tim says:
unfortunately, we do not have phone support.
OJ says:
Yet another reason I feel compelled to stear clear of your products and warn others of the perils. I am sorry it ended this way. Nothing personal with you. You are just doing your job. Have a nice weekend. Regards.

I burned my fingies a bit on the header of the wifes truck replacing a crank posistion sensor, so this was agony to type out. They are better now.
Piss on TDK.
