Deejay used to have a site called aquariumaddictiondotcom that was pretty cool. A few people here were members. Any interest in a fish keeping / aquarium forum ?

Is your salt tank still kickin' Deejay ??

Cooking Lobster: How to keep a lobster tail straight

What a great idea I always had trouble with the lobsters......like keeping the tails straight. So here is what you do. Get a wooden skewer and push it through its tail up to its brain. It may sound cruel but it actually kills some of the nerves which makes them more quieter when you throw them into scalding hot water. Plus their tales sta straighter and look better on the plate with tons of lemon and butter... What a great idea for a forum.

Yup, still have my 75G tank.

Got a sand sifter starfish and also a small horseshoe crab a month or so ago.

Was thinking about selling it all though. I just had the tank stripped down and re-built too. Got a leak on the seals so got it all re-done.

My star polyps are growing too.

I'm picking up a 300 gallon 3/4" acrylic with custom oak stand and canopy this weekend. Now I really can't wait to get the remodel done and get moved in.

Anybody wanna help me unload it when I get it home ???

One Red Tiger Oscar and one Lutino Oscar will be the main residents.
I still haven't decided on others.

I am currently considering (not all of them but this is my cut list).
I'm also still researching others.

Yellow Belly Bullhead
Teacup Ray
School of Silver Dollars
School of Balas
Two or more Silver Tip Sharks
One Pictus Cat
Tinfoil Barbs
Red Tail Shark

The tank won't see water until next Spring so I have plenty of time for planning.

Planted is out of the question with Oscars. They enjoy tearing stuff up in their free time.

I am still undecided on substrate. It will be either pea gravel or sand.

I just had to get rid of my two Oscars when I moved:( I have no room for them. I kept the tank in storage for when I move. Man I wish I could have kept them, they were two great looking fish. Only two years old too.:(. My old room mates still have their tanks set up but they didn't have room to house them till I get a bigger place.

Got it home yesterday !!!

The guy in the pic is not me but a buddy who helped me move it. I put him in the pic to help people get an idea of the size.

This thing is in MINT condition with absolutely no scratches. The stand and hood are incredible and just scream pride by the cabinent maker.

I just need to clean out the algae that was left behind (no problem). The guy had it set up as a salt reef tank and didn't have time to get it all cleaned. Reef tank owners rarely clean the back and sides as the algae is good for the tank.

I have been told that if you let salt water algae completely dry out then get it wet again that it will come right off.

We'll see.

He wears anything that is free but I couldn't ask for a better friend. One of those guys that will not only help you kill your enemy but will also help you dig the hole.

Summertime it's free t-shirts with the sleeves cut off, spring and fall he will put hand me down flannel shirts over the free t-shirts.

He must have gotten the shirt he is wearing in the picture as a birthday gift from his parents.

Anyways, now that all the silliness is away, there are a lot of websites out there now. 2 of the ones I visit and help out with as well as get help with is Fish Geeks! and The Planted Tank

Both are good in their own right. Fish Geeks has alot of helpful people on there with good knowledge about freshwater tanks and diseases.

The Planted Tank is of course highly focused to having lots of plants and how to keep them alive.

I only have one site for Saltwater, but it's focus is mainly on how to maintain reef tanks and has some very good calculators for building your own tanks. The website Garf is very good for that purpose. Enjoy!

PS. The job of the bio wheels is not to add Oxygen to the water.

LOL, just had to jack with you. One of my bad habits is taking everything literaly.

Look familiar?

Quote:

The job of the bio wheel is add more oxygen to the water after it's coming out of the filter, AND it's also a place that houses the good bacteria that helps break down ammonia.

Surface aggitation is where you get most all of your oxygen transfer.
The good bacteria (Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter) on the bio wheel actually "convert" the ammonia first to nitrite then to nitrate.

I'm a fish geek.

Did i say that? Oh well, it still is partly true. The bio wheel adds agitation to the surface water which does add oxygen. So it's partly true!?

We had two oscars and hated those peckerheads, you couldn't feed them without one jumping out of the tank to get to a piece of freeze dried shrimp.

LOL I had one jump out of the tank one night! Same thing happened to my room mate. I woke up to this smacking sound on the floor. Turned the lights on and there was Gary flopping around. When I put him back in I swear he had the most dumbfounded look on his face.
I put a book on the top of the tank after that.

They went nuts in the tank every time I went to the freezer and pulled the freeze dried shrimp out.
Most of the time it was my fault showing people what they did when you opened the lid and held a piece above the tank, of course that was most all party nights when I did it.
