Guys...I have the ultimate source of music downloads. However there is a catch. 10 gig for ten bux!! Any way you look at it, it's worth it. Speeds are really fast too. I can download 800 meg file in around 10-15 minutes. Thats fast enough for me. The web site is easynews dot com. I'm not advertising for them...just passing on a good thing. I'll try and get some screen shots of the Mp3.complet newsgroup....unbelievable....and it's all archived for you. No message expired crap!! also...did I mention PRON!! They've got an endless supply of that too....and DVD's too...I'm in heaven!!!! My wipes a little pissed but...phook her!!!

If you are talking about newsgroup providers.. there are several.

I use newshosting.com and pay $15 a month for unlimited download.

I am currently maxing out my connection as we speak. 590KB/s. Allows for 4 connections.

THey have a 25 day retention rate. Looking for games, music, movies... it's all out there.

How do they compare to ultra feed corny? You every used them? (Same price and speeds are good, just looking for the best retention in "high volume" groups)

How are thaey?? Do they have a html based way to download from the newsgroups?? The place where I'm at now...Is all done through your web browser. They filter out all the crap....click on mp3's and it'll tell you how maNY MP3'S ARE IN EACH NEWSGROUP. Then just checkmark the the ones you want click on zip and it'll zip the files for you so you only have to download one file. 2 gig zip limit. they recommend 850 mbs file though....

Never used ultra feed.

But as far as retention and completeness I have not had any problems.

The only problem I may run into is my cable modem provider putting a cap on my service. Day 3 of this month and I have already dl'd around 70 gigs of chit.

The web way to dl music sounds interesting hotspace. I am not sure if newshosting has anything like that...

Only thing I would be worried about is logs on what you have requested into zips.

THen agian. Newshosting could easily log (and retain) what I have downloaded off of their servers.

Here are a few screenshots from Easynews....
This is their web based Zip manager

And this is one of the newsgroups...

And Finally...this is of the Users home area....

You dont have to use a "newsreader...and there is no piecing together of messages. They have really good retention also.

I think I tried them a while back when they had their free trials. The web based was nice but 10 gigs was an issue.

i dont dl all that much music but from time to time its nice. there was napster, then i used kazaa and now have been using winmx for quite awhile. there just seems to be too much trash on there and too congested. i have a kick ass cable line and it's only on their site that i've been having problems for like the last 6-8 months.

recommend any other site out there for the casual downloader?

I found that bearshare can't be burnt to a cd, it will play about two seconds of each song and stops.
They must have something in the song that won't play on a cd.
Is there any free sites that can be burned to a cd?

WinMX Comp....but like EC pointed out--it gets pretty congested there and at times getting a song ewe want can be a bitch. I've had pretty good luck with transferring things I've dl'ed from there to cd. I like WinMX because they don't put sypware on ewer puter. (Or so it's said).

Thanks, I didn't know that bearshare's music wouldn't play after burning.
I did a complete burn of songs for my son it each song plays about 2 seconds of each song.

same here suz. all the extra bullshit thats put on your pc with some of those other sites is why i have stayed w/ winmx so long. and from there i have yet to have a single problem w/ burning

has anyone ever come across a song you've downloaded that has an audio copywrite embeded in the song? what i mean is....when you play it after you have dl'ed it the song plays fine but like every 15 seconds or so there is this, for example..."copywrite, capital records". i borrowed a buddies car on a trip not too long ago and he had a cd in the player that he had burned himself. had a song like that. i about pissed myself laughing so hard when i first heard it.

WinMX is my program of choice, but also have Kazaa Lite++
(Kazaa modified & stripped of spyware), it doesn't have spyware either.

I stick with WinMX because:

#1 no spyware
#2 Seeemingly not too well known, like flying under the radar
#3 it works

Good to know WinMX is the choice of some of ewe. I haven't installed anything yet since the reformat because I was watching this discussion to see what others were using with satisfaction. Guess I'll be putting winMX back on.

Comp, 99% of my +6000 Mp3's are from Bearshare. I'm able to burn all of the songs sucessfully using Nero. I'm not too sure what the issue is when you are using Bearshare.

Bearshare does contain spyware, but is easily removed from puter after the setup of bearshare

Well I don't know either, I used Nero and all of the songs were a mix of MP3 and Wave. My sons compact disk player only played 2 seconds of the first couple of songs.
So I thought his disk player doesn't play MP3's, converted the MP3's to wave and burned to disk, same thing.

We tried his compact and his sterio, neither will play a full song.

I would start by trying to play the music using your computer.

I think Nero is one if you put in a bad serial you will receive undesirable results.

Try this! Roxio Free Deep Burner

It worked really nice for me when I was removing everything from my puter before I reformatted.
