Sweet.

I backed up my first DVD yesterday! And yes, it was one I own.

Anyone else use DVDShrink? What's the final compression ratio that you get when you include the extras? I was at about 72%, and the picture still looked pretty damn good.

I told you, I was serious. The kids DVD's are in desperate need of new copies.
Of course after I backup those, I'll retire my DVD burner and won't dare touch a rented movie.

uses dvd shrink here and i have always been able to do the complete dvd, except for one time i had to remove the french language to get it to fit in the 4.7 dvd-r.

i know no one would dare to rent from an online service and copy all the movies you rent, now would you!!

I actually had to back up Nemo... No shit.. My daugher has watched the original about once a day for the past month or two, and if she could talk, she could probably recite the whole freakin movie...

(Ahhhh nemo makes a great nanny too... grin)

Anyways, they do wear out.. and i had to back it up so she can still watch it...

Anyways, has anyone ever tried to back up Jack Black? Its fuckin huge, and anytime i have tried, it wont play to the end cause there is just too much there.

Maybe strip the extras / menu / non-needed languages? If it's REALLY big you'll still need to re-encode. Or burn to a DVD-DL but those are so pricey you might as well buy another copy of the DVD.

I use dvd shrink...But i ALWAYS reauthor. I take the main movie first...and then if there are any extra featurs (deleted scenes or funny bloopers) I'll place them after the movie. No menu's for me. This way...you just pop the movie in and it starts playing...No menus, no warnings, no nada!!

hotspace I do the same.. but only if the disc is bigger then 4.7.. I like to have the menu's/extras if I can.. I also find if you compress the menu's and the extras as far as you can then sometimes can get the movie done without compression

dvd shrink and nero make a pretty good combo.. and if you have a DVD Drive and a DVD Burner you can stick the movie in hit backup and leave and the movie will burn on its own with out swapping

Can't remember the last one that was smaller that 4.7 (well... maybe Thunders ). Decrypter works well with Shrink too.

I've been using Decrypter and Intervideo DVD Copy. Working great as long as I include the menus.
